Influence of alkali source on properties of alkali activated silicate tailings

Mining activities are inevitable for the growing industrialization and urbanization in world. Disposal of mine tailings creates a severe impact to environment ultimately society. Identifying applications as potential secondary raw materials would help mining industries achieving circular economy. Alkali activation their utilization building or backfill sites is one such popular technique. In this paper, mechanically treated silicate rich magnesium/aluminum content were chosen, be used aluminosilicate precursors. The effect different alkaline sources was accessed by using sodium (Na2SiO3), sulphate (Na2SO4) carbonate (Na2CO3) activators. activated pastes studied examining compressive strength microstructural properties. High magnesium show good results with activator whereas sulphate-based performed well high alumina tailings. Sodium seems efficient early phases but does not display improvement later ages.
